THE PRINTER is the HP Photosmart C6300 All-in-One printer. Stuff I like:
- EASY WIRELESS SETUP What a great experience! The HP Photosmart is my third wireless printer. But the HP Photosmart is the first wireless printer to actually work wirelessly. The wireless set up was quick and easy -- the printer detected my home network then took over from there. Setup took about an hour, from unpacking the box to the first test pages.
- TWO CARTRIDGES The printer has two paper cartridges, one for regular copy paper and another for photo paper. This makes it so easy to switch back and forth between regular printing and photo printing, no more fumbling around with different papers.
- GORGEOUS PHOTOS I was all prepared to be underwhelmed by the photos straight off the printer. Instead, the photos are completely beautiful -- sharp, with great saturation and natural colors. Gorgeous. My new guilty pleasure: printing photos at home for frames around the house!
- ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER, SCANNER, COPIER Even though the photos are so beautiful, this printer isn't just for photos, it also prints, scans and copies. Former models of the All-in-One also included a fax, I wish this feature hadn't been dropped, even if faxing isn't so common anymore. I also wish it were more intuitive to switch back and forth between 'draft' printing and 'photo' printing (note: this may well be a MAC issue).
- INDIVIDUAL COLOR CARTRIDGES Everyone knows you can go broke buying printer ink. I'm not saying that HP's ink is cheap. But the color cartridges are individual, so you can replace each one as it's used up. This is especially important for home-based businesses, say, where a blue (or red or whatever) logo might use up one color faster than the other colors.
- SMART WEB PRINTING For PC owners, the HP Photosmart includes software free software called Smart Web Printing. Many people struggle with printing recipes from websites, I think this would be an excellent way to select only what you want to print, saving ink and paper both. (Sorry, I haven't been able to test this myself since HP doesn't yet support this feature on a Mac.)
FOR SCRAPBOOKERS
CAN YOU PRINT ARCHIVE-QUALITY PHOTOS ON A HOME PRINTER? I spent a long time on the phone one day with the 'paper crafting' guru at HP. I've always been under the impression that you couldn't get enough print quality from home-printed photos, that for photos to last several generations, you need to print at a photo production house (which excludes nearly all one-hour photo places).
YES (SO LONG AS) I am now convinced that if I use quality paper and quality ink from the SAME company (they have to work together, to last), then you can get long-lasting archive-quality photos at home. So this gives me the confidence to print photos at home for use in my photo scrapbooks. I’ll still use a photo print service for big orders (like when I have lots of shots with multiple copies), but now I know that I can fill in pages with odd shots printed at home. PLUS when I print occasional shots for friends and family, I know that if THEY scrapbook the photos, they'll last.

ReplyDeleteI've been researching agents for ages now and i've got about 15 that I really like. However, 3 of my top 5 require paper queries, two of them want the first three chapters included. That's easily over 100 pages of printing.
My problem is that I do not have a printer at all, Not even one of those old tan ones. Nada. If I want to print something, I have to email it to myself AND use a flash drive because the computers at the library are notorious for not handling email attachments well, that's IF I can get them past their "screener" software that most of the time just freezes the computer and makes me have to restart. And if there's a line of people waiting for a computer, I've got to get to the back of the line and wait for another to become available. AND, if it does manage to open and (gasp!) print, it is on one of those old tan ones that leave streaks in the lines of text. Not the best professional first impression I'd hope for. AND they charge me 10 cents a page! It sucks.
Being able to print at home would save so much trouble and hassle and MONEY. Scanning would be AWESOME, too, because I've always wanted to try and go as paperless as I can, scanning receipts, important doc's, etc. That would help. I've got a scrapbooking project for my family tree, too (the GEDCOM file lists over 600 people i've got to keep organized!) and being able to add pictures to my family tree file (without having to pay walgreens to scan them and put them on photodics) would be really awesome.
So. Yeah. Those are my reasons!

I'm about to start down a new path in life where easy mobility would definitely come in handy! Also, I have two computers in the house now - the new laptop that my fiance and I share, plus my old desktop - and a wireless printer would make it much easier to get by printing. I can't tell you how much easier our lives would be in the English/Language Arts classroom. We would be able to print essays, assignments, pictures for collages, and so much more! Our district has a printer in the computer lab but it doesn't work about 75% of the time and considering our location, as teachers we are forced to have to fix everything ourselves and we're not printer fixing professionals or gurus- can you sense my frustration.

ReplyDeleteI'm a high school teacher in rural bush Alaska, off of the road system. If I had this printer I would take my personal scanner/printer to school for use in my English/Language Arts classroom. We have one in our computer lab and we're lucky if it works about 25% of the time. Considering our location, the teachers are expected to be the technical support gurus- we have no special training in this area. It's almost impossible to publish essays and projects with my students without a working printer. If I was given this fabulous new HP Photosmart All-in-One Printer we would use it in our home for my Fiance's grad school work as well as for our wedding planning stuff and for our invitations (we're trying to save money).

Mom and Dad converted a bedroom in the lower level of their home into a home office with his and hers computer desks. Dad was always there to help with Mom with printing and scanning on her ancient black and white printer/scanner. Dad was also there to assure Mom's mobility challenges didn't cause a tumble on the stairs. My dear daddy died April 3 in a place far away from where I live. After Dad's sudden departure, we (her kids) fixed Mom up with wireless access on her laptop so she could connect to the internet as desired while on the main floor of her home and we wouldn't have to worry about her using the stairs. We didn't count on her intense desire to print all the messages of sympathy and concern that one receives after losing a beloved husband of 51 years. We also didn't anticipate her need to scan all kinds of documents associated with the death of a spouse. Mom plans to come visit with me for a long Mother's Day weekend. Her request "Help me scan some of the memorabilia in color." I have a HP color all-in-one printer that is arm's length away from my personal computer. In the end I usually end up going to work and retyping the document that I wanted to bring to work (school). We have a data projector and use many applications to show our thinking while composing writings or building background for a topic. The printer that is part of our 500 student school is many rooms away and not easy for us to get to when we want to retrieve our work. A wireless color printer would give us a close source to see our work as groups complete projects using the wireless keyboard and then have their materials so they can finish their book or document. Then another group would be able to go right to work and print immediately. All the bells and whistles of technology certainly engage my second graders and this color printer along with the flip camera we just received from another grant would take our learning to a higher level of thinking. with appreciation for the opportunity, kim m lum at g mail dot com cherry creek school

I'm always trying to find healthy after school snacks and parents love to see photos of their children, but it's costly to send them to the local drugstore to be printed. I'm also out of plugs in my office, so wireless would be awesome!!

A wireless color all-in-one printer will make my life better by being able to share all my digital photos with my distant, elderly relatives who don't "do" the internet...I'd just print out physical copies. This will make a lot of people very happy! I'd also love to scan in hundreds of old photos to share with friends and family on the internet. I have a website I started a genealogy website for my clan, and want to start adding some old photographs I inherited, but don't yet have a scanner.

This way it does not matter if I am working on my desktop or laptop or if hubby or son are using their computers - we all share one printer and save the cost of buying ink for multiple printers. I also love that this has 2 paper trays!

Wow. All I was doing was checking your site (my veggie fave) to access my husband's favorite brussel sprouts recipe, which I am making tonight, and here you are having this contest. Cool. Here is my entry: A wireless color all-in-one printer will make my life better because, well, in all honesty it will make my son's life better because I will give it to him. He is graduating and starting out on his own in this lousy job market/economy, and he will be able to use the printer to help him with his job search (printing his own resumes, his photos, etc...) and save him money. ReplyDeleteOh my I would love to win an all-in-one printer. I'm a student and I don't have a printer so I always have to go to the library to do my printing. It is not very convenient, especially when it snows! I would use it for school and play :)

Our last pirnter (an HP!) finally died and we just don't have the money to go purchase a new one at this time (mortgage comes first, a girl has to have priorities, right?). Right now when my children need to print something for school I have to email it to myself and then go to my office to print it out.

The two upstairs are wired and the laptop downstairs can't print so it would be so great to print recipes downstairs. I have to run upstairs to print recipes now and without smart software it does waste paper and ink.
